Visited here recently for a drink as we heard it had new owners and how they presented good pub food. The place is beautifully kept both inside and outside. Fabulous flowers and lovely seating areas. We went back to enjoy a lunch time meal. We were not disappointed Two very full and scrummy Fisherman’s Platters. Very lovely and very filling. Other dinners were certainly enjoying the food as it was busy and plates were returned virtually empty. Service was good, friendly and on point. We will most definitely return.

Our first visit to the Bell under new management. This is a proper country pub with very pleasant outdoor seating in the evening sun. Our table for three + dog was however indoors (hayfever sufferers!) but with plenty of space, all good. We were greeted by very friendly and attentive staff, still learning some of the ropes but no less charming for that. Service was efficient. The food was excellent - can they keep this standard? - in particular we remarked on the platter of charcuterie (a perfectly acceptable opening course share for 2 or even 3), the fish n' chips (the fish was large with a lovely crispy batter), the steak and ale pie was home made (proper pieces of steak, no gristle whatsoever, lovely soft pastry that absorbed the gravy), the new potatoes (Jersey Royals?) were SO delicious that I wouldn't have minded a couple more! Suggestions - some customers might look for a "special occasion" cocktail, however the recipe for a martini was unknown, the next suggestion of a bloody mary was recognised but there was "no tomato juice" (!) - so perhaps customer sights should be lowered until the staff are more into the practice of minor exotics like this. The gin & tonic on which we settled was perfectly good (NB let the customer pour in their own tonic) and the large rioja at the upper end of the wine list was splendid and well worth the price (a 250ml glass slipped down altogether too easily!) The bill for three was £90 all in (one starter, three mains, three soft drinks and alcohol as above) which was wholly acceptable and left room for a decent additional contribution to the staff tip jar. We got home feeling happy and satisfied. We are within pleasant walking distance and will certainly be popping in again. Thank you for a lovely evening!
